Mohan V. Aware received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Government College of Engineering, Amravati (M.S.), India, in 1980, the M.Tech. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, India, in 1982, and the Ph.D. degree for his research work on “Direct Torque Controlled Induction Motor Drives,” from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, (formerly Regional College of Engineering), Nagpur, India, in 2002.

From 1982 to 1989, he was a Design Officer with Compton Greaves Ltd., Nasik, India. During this period, he was engaged in the design and development of EHV range (up to 400 kV) of Instrument Transformers. He was associated with the development of the High-Voltage Testing Laboratory. From 1989 to 1991, he has worked as a Development Engineer with Nippon Denro Ispat Ltd, Nagpur, India, where he was associated with 6-Hi Rolling Mill Drives and 220 kV substation maintenance. During this tenure, he has designed the process lines controls with ac/dc drives and PLC-based control systems. In 1991, he joined the Electrical Engineering Department, Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering, as a Lecturer. He taught Advance Electrical Drives and High Voltage Engineering to UG/PG students and developed the High-Voltage Laboratory and the Electrical Drives Laboratory. Since 1994, he has been with the Power System Research Laboratory, Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering as a Scientist “C”. He has started various new courses like Advanced Electrical Drives, Smart Grid, and Electrical Vehicles in the department.

From 2001 to 2002, he was a Research Associate with the Electrical Engineering Department, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Kowloon, Hong Kong. He has successfully completed research project on “SMES application for Power Quality Improvement”. His research interests include multi-phase DTC drives, sensorless drives control, power electronics, and the application of energy storages (BATTERIES/SMES/ULTRA- CAPACITORS, etc) for power quality improvement. He has more than 250 publications in reputed/referred journals and conferences as well published chapters in three books and one application note on “Power Quality in steel re-rolling mills”. He has granted two Indian patents related his work. He has attended many IEEE conferences and visited many universities in different countries like, CHINA, HONGKONG, CANADA, USA, GERMANY, SINGAPORE, AUSTRALIA, THILAND, SOUTH AFRIACA, QATAR, TURKEY, UK, SRI-LANKA and delivered invited lectures. He was visiting researchers to Qatar University and TEXAS A & M, Qatar.

Presently he is working as a Professor in Electrical Engineering Department at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, NAGPUR (INDIA). He is member of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and also certified Energy Auditor. He also offers consultancy in the area of “Efficient Energy Conservation Systems, Energy Audit, Power Quality, EHV installations, Non-conventional Energy Utilisation”. He has completed many of the consultancy projects in the area of Energy Conservation, Energy and PQ Audit. He has executed R and D projects with MHRD/DST/BARC of worth Rs 1 Cr. ($150000/-USD) and also worked on various research projects with the Industries. He has also investigated the Electrical Fires in the govt. buildings and Electrocution of Wild Life in the forest. His research interest includes, Multi-phase Electrical Drives and their control, Energy Storages (SMES, Fuel Cells, Batteries) applications to Power System and grid integrated converters. He is a recipient of “Academic Commonwealth Fellowship” for tenure of six months in UK (2010- 11). He is also a visiting researcher to University of Qatar & T & M, Qatar.
Dr. Mohan Aware is the Senior Member of the IEEE and Fellow of Institute of Engineers (India), Fellow of IETE (INDIA) and Life member of ISTE (India). He is a recipient of “IETE-2016 Biman Behari Sen” award for his contribution to Industrial Application of Fractional Order PID controllers. He has been conferred the “IETE 2020-Bimal Bose” award for his contribution in the area of power electronics.
