Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is a flagship program of the Ministry for Education (Formerly Ministry of Human Resource Development). It aims to link the Higher Education Institu tions (HEIs) with set of at least (5) villages, so that these institutions can contribute to the economic and social betterment of these village communities using their knowledge base. The program was formally launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in presence of The President of India on 11th Novembter, 2014.  The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT, Delhi) has been designated as the National Coordinating Institute (NCI) for the UBA scheme. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 is the upgraded version of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan 1.0. It was launched on 25th April, 2018. UBA 1.0 or UBA Phase-1 was the Invitation Mode in which Participating Institutions were invited to be a part of UBA, whereas UBA 2.0 is the Challenge Mode of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan programme where all HEIs are required to willingly adopt at least 5 villages. Currently, UBA 2.0 Mode is going on.

Vision
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India.

Mission
The Mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India.

UBA at NIT Arunachal Pradesh
As a part of the UBA, NIT Arunachal Pradesh has adopted five villages near vicinity of the Institute campus namely Jote 1, Jote 2, Kampo, Poma and Sandgupota in the District of Papumpare. The UBA team at our institute actively targets to use the expertise available in the Institute to improve the quality of rural life through innovative and affordable technological interventions. Some of the issues addressed in the first phase are improvement in skill development for unemployed youth, quality of school education, agriculture, sanitation, health care, awareness towards digital India, renewable energy use and self-reliance.
