The National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated on 18th August, 2010 as a member of a group of ten new NITs. These new NITs were established as centres of excellence in technical education to combat the growing need of technological professionals in India. NIT Arunachal Pradesh started functioning under the mentorship of NIT Durgapur till 1st November, 2011 and Prof. Pinakeswar Mahanta is the present director of this Institute.
Initialy the NIT AP started functioning in a hired building at Yupia, district Papumpare as its temprorary site. Its permanent site is under construction at Jote, district Papumpare, surrounded by beautiful green forest and mountains. The area is picturesque and surrounding makes it ideal for a nobel academic environment.
The Institute offers several undergraduate programmes leading to Bachelor’s degree in different disciplines of engineering, technology, Integrated dual-degree programmes, Integrated Masters programmes in different disciplines of engineering and sciences and postgraduate programmes in specialised areas leading to Master’s degree in technology, humantities, sciences and management. In addition, the Institute is engaged in advanced level research and offers doctoral and postdoctoral programmes in the areas of cutting edge technologies and sciences.
